Simplified Vedic Astrology

Vedic (Hindu) astrology offers powerful and amazing insights that are either unavailable, or
impossible to determine in a western chart alone. Western and Vedic astrology are
complementary, not mutually exclusive. Western charts are very egocentric. Vedic charts
reflect Indian culture. The emphasis is not placed upon the desires or personality of the
individual, but how the individual ‘succeeds’ in the social or worldly context. What rank or
standing will the person achieve, will marriage be successful, is wealth accumulated, will
children add to the wellbeing of the family or detract from it, and will the person get a good
guru and so on? Vedic astrology is very clear on the outcomes, but very fuzzy on the details.
Western astrology is good with the details but fuzzy on the outcomes.
The core of Vedic astrology is the Vedic House structure. Vedic Houses have an extra
dimension or quality associated with them compared to western astrology. In a similar
fashion to western astrology, each House rules various areas of life with all 12 Houses dividing
life’s possibilities into a pie of twelve parts. There is an overlap in meaning in the Houses
between western and Vedic astrology but not all Vedic Houses rules the same area of life as
the corresponding western House. Some key differences between Western and Vedic Houses
include:
2nd Vedic House also rules speech and domestic happiness.
3rd Vedic House rules only younger siblings. It is a key House indicating efforts, sense of
adventures and artistic skills.
4th House indicates accumulation of all fixed assets, not just the home.
5th House rules the strength of the mind and is a ‘spiritual’ house. Karma from the last life is
indicated by this House, or for those that do not believe in reincarnation, the initial boost given
in life.
6th House also rules enemies (competitors or jealous people).
7th House also rules living overseas
8th House is also the Occult House showing an interest in astrology, numerology, tarot, ESP
etc. A person’s vitality and chronic diseases.
9th House exclusively rules the father, and the relationship to the person’s guru.
11th House rules financial windfalls and gains, as well as eldest or older siblings
12th House rules expenses, travels to exotic foreign locations, sexual pleasure and ‘liberation’
after death.
However the key difference between western and Vedic House structure does not rely upon
the above rulership of each House but upon another quality or dimension. The extra
dimension assigned to Vedic Houses, is the application of positive, negative, neutral qualities
to each House in addition to its area of rulership. For example the 9th House, as well as
indicating the father, overseas travels etc, is also the most positive and beneficial House in the
Vedic astrology. Any House with its ruling planet in the 9th House is greatly enhanced. If
Taurus owns the 2nd House of Finances, and Venus is situated in the 9th House, this is a very
fortunate turn of events for the person’s financial strength. They may also derive financial
benefit from their father.
Each House has a quality associated with it, and this quality is the preeminent quality for
determining the success or otherwise of any planet contained within it, and the House(s) ruled
by that Planet.
The qualities associated with each Vedic House are:
1st House – positive (third strongest, after 5th and 9th). The ruling planet (of the 1st House)
always takes a good energy with it.
2nd House – neutral
3rd House – Difficult but a ‘growing’ House indicating initial adverse affects can ameliorate with
time.
4th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 4th cause problems where they are located, malefic
rulers do good where they are located).
5th House – second best house for positive energy (after the 9th) – indicates where initial
positive energy or karma is directed.
6th House – negative ‘growing’ House. Indicates conditions can improve with time and effort
but initial conditions are bad or difficult. Third strongest of the ‘evil’ Houses after the 8th and
12th.
7th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 7th cause problems where they are located, malefic
rulers do good where they are located).
8th House – worst of the negative Houses. It places a brick wall in front of any House they
affect, and any planets located within the 8th
9th House – best of all Houses. Sometimes considered the House of Grace as the benefits
from it seem to appear without any real effort.
10th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 10th cause problems where they are located,
malefic rulers do good where they are located).
11th House – neutral, ‘growing’ House indicating improvement and benefits with time.
12th House – negative through decay and one of the troika of three ‘evil’ Houses. Initially
good results may appear but any benefits or positivity decays with time.
In Vedic astrology the malefic planets are: Su, Mars, Saturn, the waning Mon and the two
nodes of the Mon (Rahu and Ketu). The benefics are Venus, Jupiter, and the waxing Mon.
Mercury is androgynous and takes on the attribute of the planet with strongest influence upon
it.
As an example, Aries owning the 5th House with its ruler Mars located in the 8th House. This is
very unfortunate for 5th House affairs. The person will have no children or difficulties with
their children who could suffer chronic illnesses. Their own mind is weak. Creative and
speculative ventures are doomed and difficulties with casual relationships. However the 8th
House is enhanced and the person’s vitality and sex drive is increased. It also indicates a long
life and the person could inherit money early in their life. Interest in the ‘occult’ (astrology,
tarot etc) carried over from their last life.
The quality associated with each House works two ways. All planets bring the quality of the
House they rule to their House of residence, and the quality of the House they reside in is
transferred back to the House(s) they rule. If general, if the rulers of the two most positive
Houses, the 5th and 9th Houses are located in the same House (i.e. conjunction in Vedic
astrology), and the House they reside in is not an `evil’ House, this brings extremely good
results. This is sometimes labeled a ‘raja yoga’ (kingly union). If these planets were located in
the 10th House then the person could be extremely successful in their career or even be a
public figure provided the ruler of the 10th House was well placed and aspected.
Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, Pisces
by Jupiter, and Scorpio by Mars. Only the Su and Mon rule one sign each. Vedic Houses use
whole signs and equal Houses for the 12 Houses. For example if the ascendant is 14 degrees
Scorpio (in the sidereal zodiac), the 1st House is all of Scorpio, the 2nd House all of Sagittarius
and so on. The Vedic system of aspects is unique to Vedic astrology and the western system
of aspects cannot be used.

Adultery- Vedic astrology

Adultery: When ascendant and the Moon are both in moveable signs, strong malefics are posited in Kendra, not with benefics. Jupiter and Venus occupy common signs and do not aspect malefics, the girl may not be faithful to her husband. If both the ascendant and the Moon fall in moveable signs and also the ascendant lord, chastity of the girl becomes doubtful. Conjunction of Mars and Venus or their mutual aspect raises doubts about the character of both the bride and the bridegroom. If the ascendant in the girl's chart falls in Aries, Scorpio, Capricorn or Aquarius with Venus or the Moon posited in the ascendant, or Saturn occupies the 7th house, or Mars happens to be in the 8th house, the chastity of the girl becomes doubtful. The Sun's position in the 8th house in the girl's chart is also not desirable.
The marital alliance is not compatible if Kuja Dosha is present in one chart and absent in the other unless it gets cancelled due to other factors. Such an alliance brings unhappiness and separation. It must be emphasized that the bad features described above get eliminated under Jupiter's benign influences. For example, if 7th house is occupied by Mars who is aspected by Jupiter, then the couple get every happiness. In this yoga even the Kuja Dosha gets cancelled.
When the Moon joins Jupiter or Mercury, many Doshas get eliminated. Therefore, in matching the two charts the role of benefic planets must be kept in mind.
The role of Rahu is invariably dubious. Usually, he harms the Karakatva of the house in which he is posited and yields results of the Grahas whose Rasi he occupies. Still Rahu can give prosperity and success during his period and sub-period when posited in the 4th, 5th, 7th and 10th house. In many charts, I have noticed Rahu causing mental problems when posited in the ascendant; abortions or unhappiness from some child when he is in the 5th house; late and unhappy marriage when he is in the 7th house.
Thus, under the above description 10th house seems to be the desirable place for Rahu's position. In the 11th house also he yields favourable results, especially in the signs of Cancer, Gemini, Taurus and Virgo. Rahu loses much of his evil effect when posited in the 12th house from the Moon.
If the 7th and 8th houses, both from the ascendant and the Moon are free from malefic influence, one could expect marital happiness for the girl, provided the Kutas tally well. Otherwise suitable remedial measures should be taken by propitiating the Grahas at the time of marriage.

Yogi and Avayogi Planets- T S Vasan

In predictive Astrology there are thousands of combinations and rules which one has to master and specialize in order to get proficiency while giving predictions. Since there are many missing links and pitfalls, the general rules of this Science make even sincere Astrologer stumble and miss the target.
In order to hit the bulls eye and to become more successful in the art of prediction the late Sri H R Seshadri Iyer of Bangalore has found out certain very important secrets in the oriental Nadi writings of the past. According to this concept one should calculate Yogi, Avayogi and Dugdha Rasis before embarking on making any specific predictions. Then what is this Yogi and how to find the same and what is this Avayogi and methods to find the same?
There are 27 yogas which are called Nitya Yogas from Vishkambha to Vaidhriti. Yoga is one of the limbs of the day in Panchanga. Yoga means addition and Tithi means reduction. If you add the longitudes of the Sun and the Moon you get the yoga whereas if you deduct the longitude of the Sun from that of the Moon you will get Tithi. This Tithi is yet another limb of the day. According to the Nadi principles all the limbs of the day, i.e. Vara, Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana have great significance while interpreting the horoscope. In our classical study of this Science we have understood that the addition of the longitude of the Sun and the Moon will give a Nakshatra and this Nakshatra is counted from Ashwini to know the number of the yoga. For example if the Moon's Longitude is Bharani and since the number of the star from ashwini is 2 the yoga is 2nd yoga called Preeti. But the Nadi principle departs far from this principle and says that the Yoga number has to be counted from Pushya instead of Ashwini is summed up as follows:
Take the longitude of the Sun and the Moon plus add constant figure 3s-3º-20' (which is the starting point of Pushya Star and it is taken as first star of Vishkumbha and succeeding stars get the respective yogas). In other words the Nakshatra which we get after adding the longitude of the Sun, the Moon plus 3 signs 3 degrees and 20 minutes, should be counted from Pushya and the number gives the number of yoga. The star lord of that yoga is called as yogi and the 6th stellar lord from this yoga star is called as Avayogi. These two planets i.e. Yogi and Avayogi play a very important role in predictive system of Hindu Astrology. I even go further and say that it is a worthy breakthrough in predictive systems.
Now you have to understand some more factors in understanding this system of analysis. The lord of the house wherein the yoga point falls is called as Saha Yogi (supporting planet to Yogi) and the nine planets fall in 3 planetary groups such as Guru, Chandra and Ketu (1), Surya, Budha and Rahu (2), and Shani Shukra and Kuja (3). It is for us to know in which planetary group the yogi planet falls. If the yogi planet falls in this group the other planets of that group become yoga like planets. The second group of planets will become will become Avayoga group and the third group becomes a Neutral group. In the same way if the yogi planet falls in 2nd group the 3rd group of planets become avayoga group of planets and vice versa and other group becomes neutral group.
In our next step of understanding we have to scrutinise that how many planets are in Yogi Nakshatras and in the yoga group of planetary stars and how many planets are in Avayogi star and avayogi group of planetary stars. The remaining planets we know will fall in neutral stars. Among the yoga group of planets, yogi planetary star will have always strong influence and value and other planetary influences will be moderate. In the same way avayogi planetary star will have a strong influence when compared to the stars of avayoga planetary group of stars. Bhava lords who occupy avayoga stars will have lot of obstacles to give good results whereas Bhavadhipatis occupying yoga stars will flourish very well if there are no afflictions. But they are very strong when compared to avayoga planetary positions. Therefore we have to look into the stellar lords while reading the horoscope. The Rasi position of planets are Sthoola (general) whereas stellar positions are Sookshmas (specific).
In addition to the above yogi and avayogi principles, one should know the houses that are burnt depending on the tithi of birth. The following table gives the Rasis which are burnt according to tithi.
Tithis and Dugdha Rasis

         1st: Tula,Makara
         2nd: Dhanu,Meena
         3rd: Simha,Makara
         4th: Vrishabha,Kumbha
         5th: Mithuna,Kanya
         6th: Mesha,Simha,
         7th: Karka,Dhanu
         8th: Mithuna,Kanya
         9th: Simha, Vrishchika,
         10th: Simha, Vrishchika,
         11th: Dhanu,Meena
         12th: Tula,Makara
         13th: Vrishabha,Simha
         14th: Mithuna,Kanya,Dhanu,Meena
The planets occupying Dugdha Rasis will become weak and ineffective to give good results.
The redeeming features for this Dugdha Rasi planet are as follows:
         1. If the planets occupying Dugdha Rasis are retrograde they can survive the bad effects of Dugdha Rasi.
         2. If a Dugdha Rasi lord sits in the same Rasi or in another Dugdha Rasi he will have no bad effects of Dugdha Rasi.
         3. If Guru aspects Dugdha Rasi it can mitigate the bad influence of Dugdha Rasi to that Bhava or Rasi.
         4. If the Dugdha Rasi lord aspects Dugdha Rasi it will have some strength.
There are no dugdha rasi for Poornima and Amavasya.
The principles of Yoga, Avayoga should be studied along with other principles of Parasara School.
Avayoga Grahas should have bad Jurisdiction and should occupy bad houses whereas yoga Grahas should have good houses and should occupy good bhavas.

Astrology and Heart Diseases- Mridula Trivedi

The human heart lies in the fourth part of the body and hence it is represented by the fourth house of the horoscope. The Sun is the main significator of heart. In other words the Sun is the heart of Kaala Purusha. Sun is the source of energy and indicates oxygen too. The heart energizes the impure blood after pouring oxygen into it. So affliction of Sun plays main role in the disease of heart. Affliction of the fourth house also causes diseases of chest. A proper and careful judgment can reveal whether it is a heart disease provided biological knowledge of human body is in the mind of the astrologer at the time of judgment of the horoscope.
The general rule of Astrology that a planet, who is a Karaka or significator of a certain house if located in that house, becomes very dangerous, particularly in case of affliction, association or aspects of malefic planets.
Cancer is a watery sign and also indicates fluid in which the heart is enclosed. Cancer indicates veins too. So afflictions of Cancer sign, fourth house and Sun indicate heart troubles.
Sun controls pulsation of heart as well. It is the beating of heart which takes place in two phases. Contraction is technically called Systole and relaxation named as Diastole. These are heard as heart beats. Affliction of Sun in 4th house of a horoscope decidedly causes affliction of heart beats. Affliction of Sun in different ways may create different types of complications of heart.
Everybody is frightened by the word "heart attack" and "heart failure" and this always comes when one expects it least and takes our lives too frequently. What is heart failure? When the heart is unable to pump the blood efficiently, this condition of heart is known as heart failure or technically it is called coronary thrombosis.
Sun indicates heart mainly. He owns Leo. Therefore, Leo sign must also be considered while working for the diseases of heart. Similarly 4th and 5th houses should be judged in connection with hear troubles. Why the 5th house is referred for heartaches? If we see the exact position of heart in the body, we find whole heart is not lodged in the fourth part only. Lower portion of heart is placed into the 5th portion of Kaala Purusha. But major portion comes under the fourth part of the body, so the fourth house requires more emphasis.
Lord of fourth house has control over heart. Moon is a watery planet and has control over the fluid of the heart. Heart which is mainly represented by Sun has involuntary rhythm. It is not controlled by mind. The heart is four chambered pump. Like all other mechanical pumps it has areas of electrical activity which provides it constant rhythmic action. This electrical activity is controlled by Ketu. Sun's affliction with Ketu causes disturbances in electrical activity of heart resulting into failure of heart.
However afflicted Mars in Cancer or fourth house shows weakness of heart muscles. The heart purifies the blood by pouring oxygen into it. Sun is energy and represents oxygen also. On the basis of above significance we can trace out the exact cause of heart trouble provided we are aware with the biological facts of heart and causes of heart attacks.
         Coronary Thrombosis
This is exact which we generally name as heart attack. This happens due to small clot, thrombus in the coronary artery so that oxygen supply in the heart is disturbed. This condition is fatal. This is caused due to heavy affliction of Sun with Ketu or Mars or Saturn in fourth house. Affliction of Sun is very necessary to cause coronary thrombosis.
         Angina Pectoris
It is the condition in which the severe pain occurs in chest. It is due to inadequate supply of oxygen to the heart resulting into narrowing of arteries.
In this case affliction of Sun and Mars is required. Venus will also be involved.
         Tachycardia
It is the condition in which the heart beats increases or interval between two beats of heart is decreased. Only Sun is responsible. Placement of Sun in fourth house even with least affliction causes this.
         Defective Valves
Any kind of defect in the valve affects the normal functioning of heart. In such cases Mars and Ketu will be involved.
         Hypertension or Blood Pressure
When heart pumps the blood into arteries, there is a pressure exerted on the walls of the artery. This is blood pressure. In normal adult this should be 120/80. The blood pressure rises under the influence of tension, worry, excitement and fear etc. In this, affliction of Moon and Mars is compulsory.
There are a few main causes of heart attack.
         1. Increase in the carbon dioxide concentration in blood.
Due to this increase in carbon dioxide concentration in blood, excess of carbon dioxide begins to reach the heart. Heart starts pumping rapidly and the excess pressure can result into stoppage of heart or the heart may gradually start functioning slowly. In other words the electrical activity area fails which is governed by Ketu. So Ketu's affliction is necessary in fourth house along with the Sun.
         2. Due to excess formation of fat in the blood a substance known s cholesterol starts forming which makes the blood more concentrated and viscous and so a large amount of pressure is applied by the heart to pump the blood and at times cholesterol choke the arteries somewhere and blood supply is broken resulting into coronary thrombosis or heart attack. This is caused due to affliction of Moon, Sun and Saturn.
Now we will switch over to the horoscopic analysis for heart diseases. It is not easy task to find out the exact disease of heart; but a careful examination of various number of horoscopes may reveal it:--
         1. Afflicted Sun in Cancer or Capricorn may result into heart trouble.
         2. Affliction of Sun in the fourth house indicates further complication of heart.
         3. Affliction of Ketu in fourth house indicates weakening of heart, i.e. creates disturbance in electrical activity of the rhythm of heart.
         4. Prominent hypertension or blood pressure is denoted by an angular Sun along with afflicted Saturn or Mars.
         5. Rahu, Mars and Ketu prominently connected with Sun and fourth house cause heart diseases. Mostly such combinations may cause weakening of heart muscles or increase in carbon dioxide in blood.
         6. Afflicted Sun is connected with the lords of 6th 8th or 12th houses or with the houses themselves.
         7. The fourth and fifth house or the lords thereof must not be afflicted. More importance must be attached to the house and lord of the house comes next to that. A connection of 4th and 5th house or their lords must be established with 6th or 8th house.
Generally heart attacks come in the periods of afflicted planets or in the periods of 12th from Sun or in the period of 4th lord. Actual timing of heart trouble is the tough work and to find out the time precisely requires great practice of transits.
         8. Venus rules veins. Affliction of Venus with Sun or in the fourth house will reveal that the blood vessels have become narrow resulting into the improper flow of blood.

Astrology of Cancer- Gautam Rishi

On scrutiny of the various horoscopes of people suffering from cancer disease, I have come to the conclusion that without taking into consideration the role and influence of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto on human lives it is impossible to predict fear of Cancer disease for a particular nativity.
In Hindu Astrology, Saturn and Mars are considered evil planets and they are held to be major trouble-makers for man. All sufferings, miseries, sorrows, injuries, accidents, diseases are ascribed to them in relation to their position in a house, aspect on particular planets or houses and lordship or the trika houses. Rahu and Ketu are also considered evil planets and they work like Saturn and Mars respectively. Our ancient sages and astrologers have ascribed those ailments to these planets which were current in those times. However, in modern times new diseases, some of which are dreadful even, have cropped up. Sometimes doctors fail to detect the nature of disease even on thorough examination of the patient. And when they fail to detect the disease they name it as Cancer sometimes when it happens to be chronic one.
When the traditional bad planets like Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu afflict the Ascendant and the ascendant lord, they cause sorrows, injuries, accidents, diseases, operations in their sub-periods of Vimshottari Dasa or at the time of their forming similar combinations in Gochara in proportion to their strength in the natal chart. But when Herschel, Neptune and Pluto join hands with these evil planets particularly Saturn and Mars, the malefic effect of Saturn and Mars is heightened and this result into dreadful disease like Cancer. This happens when the extra-Saturnine planets – Herschel, Neptune and Pluto aspect Saturn and Mars or conjoin Saturn and Mars in a particular horoscope. This yoga for Cancer is formed in the following planetary patterns: --
1. When Neptune is conjoined with either Mars or Saturn, and there is mutual aspect between Mars and Saturn.
2. When Neptune or Pluto or Uranus aspect both Mars and Saturn.
3. When Neptune or Pluto or Uranus aspect Saturn-Mars conjunction.
4. When one extra-Saturnine planet aspects or conjoins Mars and another extra-Saturnine planet aspects or conjoins Saturn.
5. When either Mars or Saturn is aspected or conjoined by the three extra-Saturnine planets, i.e. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
Pluto stays in a sign for 21 years, Neptune remains for 14 years and Herschel or Uranus for 7 years approximately in a sign and then they move to the next sign.
In support of the above statement, I give below a few birth charts of the persons suffering from Cancer disease where the extra-Saturnine planets afflict Mars and Saturn, who in turn afflict the Ascendant and the ascendant lord resulting into Cancer yoga: --
Chart No. 1. Scorpio – Ascendant; Sagittarius – Moon, Rahu and Mars; Aquarius – Mercury; Pisces – Sun, Venus; Gemini – Ketu, Uranus; Leo – Pluto; Libra – Saturn and Neptune. In this chart, Saturn is conjoined with Neptune in the 12th house aspected by Uranus from the 8th house; Pluto is casting its 5th aspect on Mars; Saturn is aspecting the Lagna lord Mars.
Chart No. 2. Libra – Ascendant, Uranus; Scorpio – Rahu, Neptune; Aquarius – Jupiter; Pisces – Venus; Aries – the Sun; Taurus – Ketu, Mercury; Gemini – Saturn, Mars; Virgo – the Moon. Uranus is casting its 5th aspect on Saturn-Mars conjunction. Lagna is hemmed in between Neptune, Uranus and Pluto. Lagna lord Venus is aspected by Saturn, Pluto, Neptune and Rahu. All these combine to give rise to Cancer Yoga.
Chart No.3. Scorpio – Ascendant; Capricorn – Rahu, Mercury, Uranus; Aquarius – the Sun; Pisces – Jupiter; Aries – the Moon, Venus; Gemini – Pluto, Saturn; Cancer – Mars, Ketu, Neptune. In this chart Mars is conjoined by Neptune and Saturn is conjoined by Pluto. Further, Mars-Ketu-Neptune conjunction is receiving aspect from Uranus from the 3rd house. The Ascendant and the Ascendant lord Mars are afflicted by Neptune and Ketu.
Chart No. Taurus – Ascendant, Mars, Mercury; Gemini – Venus, Rahu, Sun; Leo – Pluto, Uranus; Virgo – the Moon; Libra – Neptune; Sagittarius – Ketu; Aquarius – Saturn. Here in this chart, Saturn alone is being aspected by the three extra-Saturnine planets. Pluto and Uranus are casting their 7th aspect from 4th house and Neptune is casting its 5th aspect from 6th house on Saturn. Lagna is occupied by Mars and Lagna lord Venus is afflicted by Rahu, Ketu, the Sun and Neptune.
Chart No. 5. Gemini – Ascendant, Pluto; Cancer – Neptune, Jupiter; Leo – Venus, Mars, Saturn; Virgo – the Sun, Mercury; Scorpio – Rahu; Sagittarius – the Moon; Aquarius – Uranus; Taurus – Ketu. Uranus is casting its 7th aspect on Saturn-Mars conjunction. The ascendant is occupied by Pluto aspected by Uranus from the 9th house. The ascendant itself is also hemmed in between Neptune, Pluto and Ketu.
Chart No. 6. Pisces – Ascendant, Saturn, Venus; Aries – Sun, Mercury; Gemini – Uranus, Rahu, Jupiter; Cancer – Pluto; Virgo – Neptune; Sagittarius, the Moon, Mars, Ketu. Saturn is being aspected by Neptune and Pluto. Mars-Ketu conjunction is aspected by Saturn and Uranus, giving rise to Cancer Yoga. The Lagna is afflicted by Saturn, Mars, Neptune and Pluto while the Lagna lord is afflicted by Rahu-Ketu, Uranus, and Mars.
Chart No.7. Scorpio – Ascendant; Sagittarius – Saturn; Capricorn – the Moon; Pisces – Uranus; Aries – Venus, Rahu; Taurus – Jupiter, Mercury; Gemini – Sun, Pluto; Leo – Mars, Neptune.
Here Mars itself is the Lagna lord conjoined by Neptune aspected by Rahu from the 6th house. Saturn is aspected by Pluto from the 8th house and Neptune from the 10th house.
Chart No. 8. Taurus – Ascendant, Saturn, Uranus; Gemini – Jupiter; Cancer – Pluto; Leo – Venus, Rahu; Virgo – Sun, Mercury, Mars, Neptune; Sagittarius – the Moon; Aquarius – Ketu.
Uranus conjoins Saturn in the Lagna itself aspected by Neptune from the 5th house. Mars is stationed in the 5th house conjoined by Neptune aspected by Uranus from the Lagna.
Chart No.9. Virgo – Ascendant; Scorpio – Jupiter, Venus; Sagittarius – the Sun, Mercury, Rahu; Capricorn – Mars; Aquarius – Saturn, the Moon; Gemini – Ketu; Cancer – Pluto, Leo, Neptune.
In this chart, Saturn in the 6th is aspected by Neptune from the 12th house. Mars in the 5th house is aspected by Pluto from 11th house. Lagna lord Mercury is afflicted by Rahu-Ketu axis and it is receiving 5th aspect from Neptune in the 12th house. All this paves way for Cancer Yoga.
After studying the above charts, we shall conclude that without taking into consideration the role and influence of extra-Saturnine planets – Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, it is difficult to predict successfully about complicated aspects of life. The role of these three planets must be studied for predicting other events of life. Since there is no mention of these planets in the ancient texts on Astrology in India, it will be fruitful to do research regarding their impact in the horoscope.

Astrology of cancer- Nimai

Worldwide researches are being conducted by eminent scientists and doctors in order to determine the cause of cancer and to arrive at the remedy thereof. Astrologers are no less behind in their march than the scientists and doctors in this regard.
It has been rightly opined that a scientist can predict the happening in his own field. Likewise the doctor and the lawyer each in their respective fields. But Astrology encompasses all. It predicts the future of all walks of life and trades and professions. Not only does it predict future, it can diagnose the cause and also suggest the remedy thereof. Hence where other profession or trade fails astrology is likely to succeed. Scientists and doctors, after labouring hard, have attributed various causes to this disease differing at the same time with one another. The medicinal remedy is yet to be found. Only in some cases some preventive measures have been resorted to and also ray therapy.
I, as an astrologer, have detected from my research under what position, a person may suffer from this disease; if so, on what part of the body and at what period of his life.
I have so far examined nothing less of a thousand cases and my firm conclusion is that, most of the people born in Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio and Pisces as ascendants under the malefic influence of Kalasarpa yoga are susceptible to this disease. There is a relaxation to this Kalsarpa yoga in that where most of the planets and sandwiched in between Rahu & Ketu this also occurs. A person having chronic disease connected with that part of the body where cancerous growth is possible is a vulnerable case. With this confirmed experience I have advised patients and their doctors to check up for cancer and in most cases I have guessed correctly.
I do not propose to tell you that this is the A to Z of this disease. There are other factors as well, where the best of the luminaries, the Sun is either in rapt conjunction with or aspected by Rahu or Ketu or Saturn, this disease can be expected. Apprehensions of the same disease occur where the ascendant and its lord are under similar malefic influences. On the top of all these it is my firm conclusion that where Saturn, Rahu, Mars are conjoined with or aspect one another strongly inclusive of Navamsa positions and constellational placements cast a strong aspect on the ascendant or its lord this disease comes about sure and certain; especially where the lord of the ascendant is devoid of strength due to being posited in enemy’s quarter or conjoined with enemy or debilitated.
It must not be construed that this sort of combination will give this disease right from the birth. It has its own time. In such a case cancer may manifest in a period of either Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, the lagna lord or in the period of that planet which is ruined being extremely malefic to give disease.
Please permit me to repeat here that all these are my own findings based on experience and careful research.
I must now switch over to the parts of the human body where cancerous afflictions may appear. These are also the products of my experience. In astrological parlance throat comes under the control of the 2nd house of the birth chart whereas Vrisha (Taurus) is the 2nd house of the natural zodiac.
Affliction to 2nd house in either case gives throat cancer. In the same way 6th house or Kanya rasi gives it in the stomach, 4th house or Karkat in lungs, Mars or Vrischik gives it in blood, Venus or Libra with 6th & 7th bhava gives it in genital organ or cavity. In the case of a woman Mars and 4th house afflicts right breast while the same Mars and 10th house afflicts the left breast. Should Mercury appear as the disease giver one should expect it in his nostrils or mouth. Jupiter likewise gives in the ears, tongue or liver; Saturn for hands, gum or mouth cavity, legs and bone structure; Moon in face and breasts, the Sun in stomach and Mars in blood.
Now I propose to place before you a few case studies.
Chart No.1 – Stomach Cancer:
Birth – 18-9-1932, Asc – Virgo with Sun 1°30, Saturn in 5th 5°20, Rahu in 6th 23°31, Moon in 8th 7°30, Mars 5°36, Venus 16°50 in 11th, Ketu 23°31, Jupiter 15°20, Mercury 23°5 in 12th. Cancer in stomach appeared in Rahu dasa & Rahu bhukti. Here all planets except the Sun and Saturn are in one side of Rahu-Ketu axis. Rahu is in 6th the house of disease in the constellation of Jupiter who is in 12th conjoined with the ascendant lord. Jupiter, in its turn is kendradhipa thereby giving Rahu to cause the disease. 6th Rahu and lagna in Virgo being an earthy sign represents bowels and being a common sign also indicates the same part of the body. On the top of this lord of Virgo, Mercury is afflicted by Rahu, the dasa lord also devoid of strength. Saturn and Mars also aspect each other, hence both are afflicted.
Chart no.2 – Uterus Cancer:
Date of birth – 1-4-1918. Asc – Leo & Mars in 26°, Moon 12° in 4th, Rahu 13° in 5th, Venus 3°10 in 7th, Sun 18° in 8th, Mercury 5°40 in 9th, Ketu in 11th, Saturn (R ý) 14°50 in 12th. Cancer started in Moon dasa and Saturn bhukti. As before, excepting Mars, Saturn, Moon rest are in one side of the axis. Affliction arises due to placement of Venus in 7th in Mars constellation and aspected by Mars. The lord of 7th is retrograde . In the dasa of 12th lord who is also in the constellation of the 7th lord and, and bhukti of 7th lord, cancer in uterus appeared.
Chart No.3 – Face Cancer:
Date of birth – 18-9-1923. Ascendant Leo, with Mars 18°38, Rahu 17°46 & Sun 2°, Venus 4°31, Mercury (R ý) 19°4, Saturn 26°52 in 2nd, Jupiter 23°24 in 3rd, Moon 7°20 in 5th, Ketu in 7th. All the planets are in one side of Rahu-Ketu axis; hence kalsarpa yoga is fully present . 2nd house denoting face is also afflicted and lord Mercury devoid of strength as he is retrograde in his house of exaltation. Saturn in Mars constellation and afflicts 2nd lord. So during Rahu dasa and Saturn bhukti severe pain in face started and cancer was detected in Mercury bhukti. Lagna is afflicted by both Rahu and Mars who are in rapt conjunction.
Chart No.4 – Blood Cancer:
Date of birth – 2-2-1966 at 10.10 a.m. Asc – Pisces, Rahu 8°30, Jupiter (R ý) 28° in 3rd, Moon 0°50 in 4th, Ketu in 9th, Mercury 16°10, Sun 19°40, Venus (R ý) 8°20 in 11th, Mars 8°52, Saturn 22°8 in 12th. Blood cancer was detected during Rahu & Rahu period. All the planets except Moon are on one side of Rahu-Ketu axis. Lagna lord is weak and helpless being retrograde and conjoined with Rahu in an enemy quarter. Mars the karaka for blood, is also conjoined with Saturn in 12th and is in the constellation of Rahu; hence afflicted and weak. Sun is with the 8th lord Venus & Kendradhipa Mercury. Hence its affliction.
Now Friends, I feel delicate to put before you a thing that I have chanced upon as a remedy for cancer. I have prescribed gem stones. The kind of gem stone has been determined thus:
First determine the sub-lord of the ascendant. That is done by assuming as if the Moon is in the place of lagna, the bhukti-lord determined from this assumption is the sub-lord. Next find out whether this sub-lord promises to give any cure; and should it be in the affirmative, its gemstone properly treated and worn in the approved nakshatra will give cure. But where the case is otherwise, I become helpless to suggest a remedy.
“Samput Chandi” has been accepted be the devoted Indians as a remedial measure on this occasion. It is also my belief and experience that good results are achieved if the devotional Samputak Chandi and Puja of the deity presiding over the sub-lord is performed on the auspicious star day of the sub-lord.

Astrology and Disorders of Mind- Yogibhai

“Human mind is indeed a wonder. Man is ever in mental conflict and is curious and inquisitive to know how sorrows and joys spring from mind” observed an erudite scholar of astrology. Philosophically Chandra (the Moon) represents the mind and the mind is the connecting link between body and soul or matter and soul. Like the two fortnights of the Moon, bright and dark, human mind has also two phases – one of joy and other of sorrow.
To study mental make-up one has to look at Lagna, the 3rd, the 4th, the 5th, the 6th, the 9th and the 12th houses of the chart. Planets controlling reason and emotion are Mercury and Moon respectively. Mental ailments of any nature refer to the ruler of the 3rd house of the natal zodiac and to the planets therein, to the planets in common signs and cadent houses and to the Moon and Mercury. Mithuna (Gemini) being an intellectual sign and Kataka (Cancer) being an emotional sign, have important roles in causing mental afflictions. Mercury governs intellect and the Moon controls the brain and mind.Central nervous system is controlled both by the Moon and Mercury whereas other planets have influence over peripheral nervous system of the body. The 6th house of a chart relates to the sub-conscious, the 9th to the super-conscious and the 12th to unconscious states of mind. Hence these houses come into the picture while discussing diseases pertaining to mind.
Afflictions to the houses mentioned above go a long way to manifest mental maladies. When any such disease is manifest, it not only impairs the mental set-up but spreads throughout the system and thereby may bring about a total collapse of the physical, mental nervous systems, and the man becomes a lunatic.
The human body is composed of five elements namely, earth (Kshiti), water (apas), fire (tejas), air (marut) and ether (vyoma). When vyomtatva (ether) is deranged the man eventually behaves erratically. Any imbalance or derangement in any of the tatvas causes physical ailment.
Generally, everybody at times becomes an easy prey to mental imbalances. Man behaves differently at different hours of the day. His mental condition is ever dynamic and so upsets in inner mental region are not uncommon. The thinking mind misbehaves due to affliction of the Moon or Mercury in transit.
There are various mental illnesses, a few of which may be stated as moodiness, melancholia, hysteria, mania, phobia, schizophrenia, dementia, dullness, lunacy, obsession, fixity, insanity, perversion, paranoia, fits, swoons, epilepsy, morbidity, loss of consciousness, suicidal tendencies and so on.
In the succeeding paragraphs, I will try to locate the planetary combinations with the resulting afflictions which ascribe to the cause of the diseases and conditions of the patients.
Matibhramana Yogas as enumerated in Dr B V Raman’s Three Hundred Important Combinations may be cited for ready reference :
      (1) Conjunction of Mercury and Gulika especially in the 6th,
      (2) the Moon in conjunction with Ketu and Saturn,
      (3) Saturn and Mars in an angle but causing Papadhi Yoga from Moon or from Mercury,
      (4) Saturn and Rahu conjunction especially in the first degree of Virgo, Lagna being either Pisces or Virgo, and
      (5) Mars powerfully aspecting or in conjunction with Mercury in the 6th or the 8th.
Jataka Parijata states, malefics in the 4th or the 5th (in malefic Shashtiamsa) and not aspected by benefics create mental disease. Rekha Yogas of different nature as per Jataka Parijata are as follows :
      (1) Benefic planets in dusthanas (the 6th, the 8th, the 12th), malefics in angles and trines and the 11th lord powerless,
      (2) the ascendant lord with malefics – Jupiter and Venus being invisible and the 4th lord associated with malefic planets,
      (3) conjunction of the 5th and the 8th lord in the 5th and the ascendant lord debilitated or combust or eclipsed,
      (4) ascendant lord powerless and aspected by the 8th lord and Jupiter, Pragnakaraka, being combust, and
      (5) the 9th lord eclipsed and the lords of the 1st and 2nd powerless.
From an authoritative source a few combinations for mental derangement are enumerated as follows :
      (a) If the Sun and the Moon are jointly posited in Lagna, the 5th or the 9th and Saturn with Jupiter in a kendra, Yoga for lunacy is created.
      (b) If birth is on Saturday or Tuesday and Mercury along with the Moon is situated in a kendra and if these two planets fall in Navamsa of evil planets the native becomes insane.
      (c) If the Moon is associated with evil planets or is associated with Rahu and placed in the 12th, the benefics being posited in the 8th the native tends to be erratic in behaviour and his nature becomes quarrelsome.
      (d) If birth is on Saturday or Tuesday, Jupiter occupies the 3rd house, the Sun and the Moon are jointly placed in the 1st, the 5th, or the 9th, undoubtedly the native turns mad.
      (e) If Jupiter is in Lagna aspected by Mars from the 7th, there is every chance of the native becoming insane, and
      (f) if Mercury is posited in the 6th influenced by Saturn from any house, possibility of lunacy cannot be ruled out.
In regard to the yoga for lunacy we notice in Hora Shataka, Slokas 73 and 74 that the ascendant, the 4th house and the Moon relate to the feelings and emotions of man and the 5th house and Mercury stand for the quality of logical and rational thinking.
In the 4th house the Moon is powerful and he is karaka for the house and is the 4th lord of the natural zodiac. Hence if the Moon becomes the 4th lord (in case of Aries ascendant) and if he is under the exclusive influence of Rahu the person suffers from fits, swoons and morbidity, and if the Moon goes to the 8th being influenced by Rahu either by association or by aspect, the person suffers from epilepsy.
In Jataka Tatva, by Mahadeva a few rules have been enumerated for deciphering yogas for lunacy:
      (i) If Jupiter is posited in Lagna and Mars is in the 7th the person will be a mad man, i.e. a man who is always crazy after something. He goes to the extreme in all respects.
(ii) If Saturn occupies Lagna and Mars occupies the 6th, the 8th or the 12th from Lagna, the person concerned will be mad and his nature will be violent.
(iii) Saturn in Lagna, the Sun in the 12th, the Moon and Mars in trine make the person concerned lose all his senses.
(iv) The 3rd lord ill-placed, eclipsed, depressed or in the 6th aspected by a malefic will cause madness through poison.
      (v) The powerless Moon when combined with Saturn, placed in the 12th house, makes the native mad (this rule has been explained earlier).
(vi) If the 2nd lord with Saturn associates with any malefic in any house, madness will be caused through vayu or wind. Vayu, pitta and kapha are the three humors in human body. The derangement of any of them causes ailment (This has been adumbrated earlier).
(vii) The 2nd lord with Saturn being associated with the Sun bring lunacy through bilious disorder, and
(viii) If Mercury aspects Lagna where the Moon and Saturn are posited, the mind of the native will be much perturbed.
In summing up and from my experience I have come to the conclusion that Lagna, Lagna lord, the 4th, the 5th, lords of these two houses, affliction of the Moon and Mercury are generally responsible in bringing about diseases of the Mind. Severity of the disease depends upon the gravity of malefic influences. Yet a proper interpretation and a judicious probe into the various dicta and rules detailed under different categories in the preceding paragraphs, will reveal many a fact relating to the causation of mental maladies and as such sufficient care should be taken in applying the rules.
First powerless Lagna lord is enough to render the mental region shaky and brain power weak. If the chart in any way is powerful, the Yoga for mental aberrations becomes less effective; but along with this combination if other factors come to operate, the native is very likely to suffer from mental disequilibrium.
The Saturn-Moon combination is dreaded much as Saturn is a planet who coils within himself and the Moon finds joy in revelation. Here the combination creates a tug of war between inner thoughts and outer actions. This particular combination in certain houses is no doubt harmful for achievement of material pleasures. Particularly, when the Saturn-Moon combination occurs in Pisces and Lagna becomes Virgo – the man anticipates diseases at all times and is never happy. This is a case of phobia. But in earthly and fiery signs the Saturn-Moon combination bestows prosperity in many cases. The Saturn-Moon combination in Sagittarius for Sri Aurobindo, in Virgo for Swami Vivekananda and the same combination in Taurus in the horoscope of the revered Editor have elevated the native to the great height of name, fame and wisdom. Mechanical application of these rules verbatim will lead the astrologer to labyrinths of errors and confusions. Hence the study of the total horoscopic pattern is of vital necessity.
A divine subject like astrology does not operate within the frameworks of hard and fast rules and axioms only. The wisdom of the Rishis sprang forth from the lone hermitages when there were no modern facilities of press and publication. The truth was revealed from divination and intuition and it was bequeathed to their able disciples to foster it through ages and to leave an undying legacy to posterity
